A man accused of killing his father, a former Missoula rural fire chief, entered a change of plea last week, in a case which has been pending in Missoula County District Court for more than two years. Colton R. Merritt, 24, entered an Alford plea to one count of deliberate homicide, a felony, on Thursday, according to Missoula Chief Criminal Deputy County Attorney Matt Jennings. Under an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges prosecutors have enough evidence to gain a conviction.
